Many thanks to everyone that helped at the sew party. The response was beyond my expectations and touched my heart. Thanks to family members that came all the way from New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona, my aunt and cousin for spending endless hours preparing for this day, to friends and community members that read about our project in the various local newspapers, word of mouth and Nextdoor neighbor. If you stayed to volunteer, dropped off supplies or made a monetary donation, you have made a difference in a girls life half the way around the world! The magnitude of support is overwhelming. This gives me faith that there is hope!
A few pictures of the sew party. Throughout the 8 hours, about 100 people showed up. Many to drop off supplies, others stays a short time, others stayed all day. Thank you Naomi for teaching so many people how to sew and for the use of 6 of your sewing machines. Thank you to Robert for cutting the fabric, this made the process go so much faster, allowing our sewers to focus on sewing and not cutting. Thank you Sophia for taking pictures and jumping in wherever I needed you, Susie for the hours of planning, checking people in and interviewing them, Victoria, Angie and Zeely for traveling so far and for wearing so many hats, from keeping our volunteers fed to running to Joanns when we were low on fabric.
This day was a perfect example of what people can do when we come together for a single cause. Volunteers spanning from 8 years old to 80+ made this event a success.
